How to Remove Sensors From Outdoor Light Switches
Outdoor light switches often have built-in sensors that detect motion or light. These sensors can be convenient, but they can also malfunction or become outdated. If you need to remove a sensor from an outdoor light switch, follow these steps.
1. Turn off the power to the light switch. This can be done by flipping the breaker that controls the switch or by unscrewing the fuse that powers it.
2. Remove the faceplate of the light switch. This is usually done by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place.
3. Locate the sensor. The sensor will usually be located on the back of the light switch. It will be a small, black or gray box with wires attached to it.
4. Disconnect the wires from the sensor. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the wires in place. Be careful not to touch the bare wires with your fingers.
5. Remove the sensor from the light switch. Once the wires are disconnected, you should be able to pull the sensor straight out of the light switch.
6. Install a new sensor (optional). If you are replacing the sensor, simply follow the steps in reverse order. Be sure to connect the wires to the new sensor in the same way that they were connected to the old sensor.
7. Turn on the power to the light switch. Once the new sensor is installed, you can turn on the power to the light switch and test it to make sure it is working properly.
Removing a sensor from an outdoor light switch is a relatively simple process. By following these steps, you can easily replace a malfunctioning or outdated sensor and get your light switch working properly again.
