Cinder blocks are affordable, durable, and easy to work with, making them a great choice for DIY projects. In this article, we'll show you how to build an outdoor grill with cinder blocks, step by step.
Materials You'll Need:- Cinder blocks
- Grill grate
- Firebricks
- Mortar
- Work gloves
- Safety glasses
The first step is to choose a location for your grill. Make sure it's a level, well-drained area away from any flammable materials.
Step 2: Build the BaseTo build the base of your grill, stack two layers of cinder blocks in a rectangular shape. Make sure the blocks are level and flush with each other.
Step 3: Create the FireboxTo create the firebox, stack two more layers of cinder blocks inside the base, leaving a space in the center for the fire. Line the firebox with firebricks to protect the cinder blocks from heat.
Step 4: Install the Grill GratePlace the grill grate on top of the firebox. The grate should be level and supported by the firebricks.
Step 5: Build the ChimneyTo build the chimney, stack two more layers of cinder blocks on top of the grill grate. Leave a small opening at the top of the chimney for smoke to escape.
Step 6: Seal the JointsTo seal the joints between the cinder blocks, use mortar. Apply the mortar with a trowel and smooth it out. Make sure to fill all the cracks and gaps.
Step 7: Cure the GrillAllow the mortar to cure for at least 24 hours before using the grill. This will give the mortar time to set and harden.
Tips:- Wear work gloves and safety glasses when working with cinder blocks.
- Use a level to make sure all the blocks are level and plumb.
- Be careful not to overload the grill.
- Clean the grill regularly to prevent rust and build-up.
Building an outdoor grill with cinder blocks is a fun and easy way to create a custom grilling space in your backyard. With a little planning and effort, you can build a grill that will last for years to come.
