1. Choose the Right Location

Wind direction: Make sure the fireplace is situated so that the prevailing wind will blow smoke away from your home and guests.

2. Gather Your Materials

6. Install the Fire Grate and Chimney Cap

Place the fire grate in the fireplace. The fire grate should be large enough to support the logs and allow air to circulate. Install the chimney cap on top of the chimney.
