How To Make No Sew Outdoor Seat Cushions
Patio furniture is an essential investment for summertime lounging and relaxing outdoors. But when the furniture starts to get worn out, it can quickly become an eyesore. New cushions can get expensive, but there is a simple and affordable solution: no-sew outdoor seat cushions. You can easily make them in just a few minutes with a few basic materials and some simple cutting and folding techniques.
Materials you'll need:
- Outdoor fabric (such as Sunbrella or canvas)
- Foam (density will vary based on desired firmness)
- Scissors
- Ruler or measuring tape
- (Optional) Measuring Cups
- (Optional) Measuring Spoons
Instructions:
1. Measure and Cut: Measure the seat area of your furniture and cut a piece of foam to fit. Then, cut two pieces of fabric, making each piece approximately 2 inches larger than the foam on all sides.
2. Place Foam: Place the foam on one piece of fabric, centering it. Fold the excess fabric over the foam and secure it with a straight pin. Repeat with the other piece of fabric.
3. Fill the corners: If the corners of your cushions are square, you will need to fill them with extra foam or fabric scraps. To do this, cut a small piece of foam or fabric to fit inside the corner. Insert it into the corner and secure it with a straight pin.
4. Smooth and fold: Once the corners are filled, smooth out the fabric and fold it over the edges of the foam. Make sure the fabric is tight and even.
5. Secure corners: Fold the corners of the fabric diagonally and secure them with a straight pin. Repeat with all four corners.
6. Finish: Fold the remaining edges of the fabric over the sides of the foam and secure them with a straight pin. Repeat with all four sides.
Additional tips:
- For a tighter fit, use fabric that is slightly smaller than the foam.
- If you want your cushions to be softer, use a lower density foam.
- If you want your cushions to be firmer, use a higher density foam.
- To keep your cushions clean, use a mild soap solution and a sponge. Rinse thoroughly and air dry completely.
With a little effort, you can easily make your own no-sew outdoor seat cushions. This is a great way to update your patio furniture without spending a lot of money. Plus, you can customize the cushions to match your unique style.
