How to Make Outdoor Cushions for Wicker Furniture
Outdoor wicker furniture is a great way to enjoy your patio or deck, but it can be uncomfortable without cushions. Making your own outdoor cushions is a great way to save money and customize the look of your furniture. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make outdoor cushions for wicker furniture:
Materials:
- Outdoor fabric
- Foam or batting
- Zipper (optional)
- Thread
- Needle or sewing machine
- Scissors
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Chalk or fabric marker
Instructions:
- Measure the wicker furniture. Measure the length, width, and thickness of the seat and back cushions. Add 2 inches to each measurement for seam allowance.
- Cut the fabric. Cut two pieces of fabric for each cushion, one for the top and one for the bottom. The pieces should be the same size as the measurements you took in step 1.
- Cut the foam or batting. Cut a piece of foam or batting to the same size as the fabric pieces.
- Sew the zipper (optional). If you want to add a zipper to the cushions, sew it to one of the fabric pieces now. Align the zipper with the edge of the fabric and sew it in place using a zipper foot.
- Pin the fabric and foam together. Place the fabric pieces right sides together and pin them around the edges. Then, place the foam or batting on top of the fabric and pin it in place as well.
- Sew the cushions. Sew around the edges of the cushions using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave a small opening on one side for turning.
- Turn the cushions right side out. Reach inside the opening and turn the cushions right side out. Press the edges of the cushions with an iron to give them a finished look.
- Topstitch the cushions (optional). If you want to add a little extra durability to the cushions, you can topstitch them around the edges.
